Designed by Traction Structure, the Seagrape Home is a contemporary weekend retreat located in Anna Maria, Florida.
Description by Traction Structure The house was designed to be a gathering place for a number of generations of an prolonged household. Located on a barrier island, the form of the location shifts with every passing storm. Through the course of the challenge, dunes emerged and multiplied, and the space between the home and the shoreline greater than doubled. We conceived of the home as a bodily anchor alongside the blurred edge between land and sea, a device to know the panorama and one’s place inside it. Permanence is expressed by selectively exposing the house’s poured concrete development which resists hurricane forces and allows dramatic cantilevers. Livable areas are elevated on concrete columns to guard the house from storm surge and to permit the dune vegetation to meander under. A megaphone-formed deck is subtracted from the quantity of the constructing to amplify the sound of crashing waves. Small particulars, reminiscent of an aluminum line inlaid into the concrete flooring orient you due West, and carvings within the cypress wall cladding triangulate your place throughout the Gulf of Mexico to Tulum and Veracruz, a nod to distant civilizations. A time capsule containing household mementos was forged into the concrete shear wall, reinforcing the notion of the home as a continuing as time passes and youngsters develop. The house’s wedge-formed type was derived from the will to realize each volumetric and thermal effectivity whereas maximizing views of the Gulf. Bedrooms have been envisioned as areas of quiet respite with cypress constructed-ins that body the ocean to advertise contemplative research. Photovoltaic panels present the majority of the house’s power wants. The Seagrape Home is the primary LEED Platinum licensed residence on Anna Maria Island. It was just lately awarded a Design Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects, Tampa Bay Chapter. Images by Moris Moreno Go to Traction Structure
